1. Education Philosophy

Han Academy is a private school with its unique education philosophy and curriculum structure. With a commitment to high quality teaching in all its academic areas, the School has established a special focus on traditional Chinese culture and heritage. The School aims at developing students’ bilingual abilities and fostering their national identity and a global perspective. It strives to be a great model in education standards and practice in Hong Kong.

Han Academy adopts Chinese cultural values and proven modern education philosophies. It embraces the best of Chinese and international pedagogical practices. It welcomes partnership with universities and other schools that also have a strong commitment to maintaining quality of education, for the purpose of building a new educational platform –global schools that spreads Chinese culture in the world.

 

3. School Management and Teaching

Han Academy is founded by Happy Life Education Foundation Limited. The Happy Life Education Foundation Board is a group of highly accomplished specialists and scholars in the disciplines of education, commerce, history, humanities, mathematics, science, arts and sports, who shared a passion for quality education.

Our School’s leadership team is composed of the Board of Directors of Happy Life Education Foundation, the School’s senior executive management, parent representative, teacher representative and leaders from the community. Happy Life Education Foundation seeks out highly committed professional and experienced teachers and management staff from all-over-the-world. Teachers of Chinese language and literature are selected from mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan, where Chinese language is the mother tongue, while teachers of English language come from English-speaking countries, such as the United States and the United Kingdom. The School’s Administration staff is mainly recruited locally.

5. Diverse Curricula

5.1 Curriculum for primary school (Y1-Y6)

Our curriculum for Years 1-6 is Cambridge Primary. The school prepares teaching materials and teaches in both Chinese Mandarin and English as its medium of instruction. Both simplified and traditional Chinese writing systems are in use.

The ratio of Chinese and English languages in teaching changes from 8:2 to 5:5 from lower primary to higher primary. While helping students' lay a solid foundation in Chinese, at the same time, our system prepares the students in English language as well, to facilitate their further study in secondary schools and beyond of international curriculum.

  • Formative and summative assessments are both implemented.
  • Pupils in primary school develop their diverse interests and enthusiasm for exploration and are trained to have a good awareness of team cooperation, time management and self-motivated learning.
  • All primary school graduates will take end-of-primary exams of the school before entering into secondary school when passing the exam.

5.2 Secondary School Curriculum (Y7 – Y11)

Cambridge Secondary 1 and Secondary 2 IGCSE are offered by Han Academy to students in Year 7-11. Both Chinese Mandarin and English languages are mediums of instruction.

The ratio of Chinese and English in teaching changes from 4:6 in Secondary 1 to 2:8 in Secondary 5 gradually, preparing students for a better foundation in Chinese and English.

5.3 High school curriculum (Y12-Y13)

Han Academy is an authorized Cambridge Advances (A) Level school. In parallel, since September 01, 2017 it is a candidate IB Diploma Programme school and aims at passing the full IBDP authorization in 2018. Upon completion of secondary levels at Han Academy, our students can apply to study in the best local and overseas universities which accept both A-level and IBDP qualifications.

  • Formative and summative assessments are both implemented.
  • Students are being guided on the opportunities for future study and career and are strongly encouraged to aim at outstanding academic achievements at our School, to recognize their cultural identity and strengthen their sense of social responsibility, global citizenship and international mindedness.
  • At the end of the Cambridge A-level programme, the students are required to take the A-level examinations toward receiving the Certificate. As planned and expected, the first IBDP students can complete the programme and take respective Diploma assessment in May 2020, which is widely recognised by world leading universities.

6. Strategic Partnership

The school has successfully passed the authorization of CIE and has became a Cambridge International School. Also, Han Academy is now a candidate school for the Diploma Programme authorized by IBO.
