Staff Profile/English Language Department

Matthew McManaway

I was born and raised in the beautiful Rangitikei region of New Zealand, on a 750 cow dairy farm that has been in the family for several generations, and my father owns and operates. I enjoy returning to work on the farm as often as I can and find that it offers me a valuable balance, which I encourage in my learners.

I have over 10 years of teaching experience, working with a diverse range of international educators and students. I have spent the bulk of my professional life in Hong Kong, predominantly at one of the most prestigious schools here. Most recently, I returned to New Zealand for 18 months, where I was teacher and boarding master at Scots College in Wellington.

I believe that it is essential for students to look forward to coming to school and I try to create a positive learning environment for them. When learners are engaged and not afraid to take risks with their learning, they increase their chances of unlocking their true potential. I encourage my students to embrace 21st century learning in a positive and meaningful way, where they can grow into their own philosophies and thrive in the ever increasingly global society that we live in.
